Another Good Reason To Pray In Tongues!

by Charlie Rogers

It is my prayer and hope that through this teaching and the teaching last month that some who don’t pray in tongues, will see the importance in receiving their supernatural prayer language from God. It is also my hope that those that do pray in tongues will desire to pray even more than ever before. If you do not have last month’s teaching for some reason, it is now posted at www.charlierogers.org you are welcome to go there and print it off at the website. Just click on "Teachings" in the links section and it will take you to the monthly written teachings.

I know you’re either asking at this moment or you have in the past asked, why should anyone pray in tongues, it sounds silly and no one can understand it. Let me try to show you in the Word of God!

1 Cor 14:1-4

Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. NKJV

Paul in writing here is telling us to pursue love, desire the spiritual gifts, but importantly that we prophesy. He goes on and explains why. It’s important to build up our faith to be able to let God use us to prophesy, because prophecy in the body of Christ edifies the entire church body, this is done publicly. But Paul tells us even more in these scriptures.

He tells not only about prophesying to edify the body, but he also shows us that when we pray in an unknown tongue we edify our self as individual believer. He also tells us that when we pray in an unknown tongue we are speaking to God not to man. This is done in our prayer closet, because it is not understood by the natural mind. He also tells us in this passage an important thing, the very important reason why every believer should have their prayer language and pray in tongues.

That reason comes at the end of verse 2, "however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries." That word mysteries is translated to mean, "the mind of Christ".

Now we know that no one when they are praying is going to slip up on God and tell Him something He doesn’t already know. So what is He saying here, just this, that when you pray in other tongues or pray in the spirit, you are edifying yourself as an individual and you are praying into your life the mind of Christ for YOU!

What God has for you personally. Let’s take another look in the Word of God.

Rom 8:26-27

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. NKJV

Here God’s Word tells us that the Holy Spirit helps in our weaknesses, those things in our life that are not lining up with His Word, or how God looks at them. He also tells us that when we don’t know how to pray for something as we ought to or just exactly how to pray according to His plan, He will do our praying for us. So we might pray in our understanding (our native language) to the extent that we know how or how God wants something. But when we pray in the Spirit, in that supernatural language, we turn the praying over to God. We sometimes know that we want to pray for someone or something but we just don’t know how to go about it or exactly the correct way. If we turn it over to Him how can we make a mistake in our praying? Verse 27 says;

27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. NKJV

So here the Word says that Jesus knows what the mind of the Spirit is because He makes intercession for you and me, according to the will of God, what God’s mind is for each of us. The Holy Spirit prays through us and for us in each situation according to what God thinks and His best for each situation. Not according to what you and I think. We may think a certain way because of false doctrine from the past that we been conformed to and God sees it differently, and the only way He is able to get across to us what He has for us is when we pray in other tongues and bypasses our wrong understanding. So when we pray in other tongues we turn it all over to God or the mind of Christ. He gets to bring about all those good things He has for you and I, things like His perfect will. Like whom He is in you, to you and through you! The Holy Spirit can’t mess it up like you and I might, He prays according to His Word, His mind. As much as I appreciate your prayers for me in your understanding, the more I like it when you pray for me in the Spirit and let God do the praying for you.

Let’s take it out of our hands and put it all in His hands, all we have to do is to have the faith to open up our mouths to speak out that prayer language, that He may do the rest. All you have to do is take an hour each day and pray in other tongues and let Him make intercession on your behalf and get the perfect will of God operating in your life.

Maybe you would like to be baptized in His Spirit and speak with other tongues according to;

Acts 1:4-5

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." NKJV

Acts 2:1-4

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. NKJV

I remember when I received my prayer language in a camp meeting in June of 1985; they prayed the same prayer for me. They told me it would come up from my most inner being, but I would have to use my faith by opening up my mouth and speak it out even though I would not understand it and they were right. I only went away that night with one or two syllables, but the more I prayed, even in the shower that night, the more syllables that came forth and the stronger it got. All you have to do is receive what He has.

Lift your hands and close your eyes and pray this prayer, Father I want all that you have in your Word, I believe that you sent the Holy Spirit as my Helper (John 14:15-17), I ask that you baptize me in your Spirit with evidence of speaking in other tongues. In the name of Jesus! Now just open your mouth and let that from your most inner being begin to form on your lips, remember you have to speak it out, He is a gentlemen He will not beat you over the head with it.
